Built Environment Enhancement through High-performance Facility Management Practice

Big Data Analytics – An overview

Facilities Management or FM, as lovingly called – is a science of Practice that encompasses all elements of the Life cycle of any Built environment.
It is not a “Maintenance regime “nor an “Operational endeavour “, but a total integrated system of Project management, Best Use practice; Value Enhancement; Betterment of costs / square feet, all put together in a practical way of procedural science.

Facilities Management Strategy

FM management is a form of asset management in which all physical environment components, such as people, processes, location, and technology, are integrated to ensure proper system operation.

(Inspired by definition by IFMA) Energy and economic efficiency management of a building is a significant need that FM has to contribute to the reduction of inefficiencies in building operations and maintenance.

FM requires multidisciplinary abilities such as MEP, Architecture, Civil engineering, Behaviour of Men and Systems, Finance and Accountancy; all must carry out their tasks from the start of the development cycle.

Traditionally, building operations and upkeep were thought to be FM’s responsibility. However, because FM encompasses such a wide range of activities, it is seen as a critical component in a building’s ability to function to its optimal as intended. Therefore, a robust FM strategy is implemented to manage resources, lower the Opex and replacements, and reduce the overall risk of system breakdowns.

A high-performance and Robust facility management system ensures that all building technology and facilities are operational and compliant. In addition, the building’s operations team are deemed to ensure that the structure operates and maintains itself effectively and efficiently in terms of cost, operations, and maintenance, all while meeting the expectations and objectives of the clients.

Big Data and Facilities Management

Facilities Management depends greatly on Data capture through a highly efficient CAFM system. The data captured is vital to assimilate and analyse the performance of the environment of the systems.
The quality of data captured and interpreted is essential and is a “must do “for the Life cycle cost analysis of the assets in the subject.

The endeavor is to turn data into information and information into insight.

  • It can add value in the following:
  • Non-Effective energy metrics
  • Disparate systems
  • Lack of effective energy management systems
  • Lack of performance visibility.

Big Data and High performing FM is the new genre of FM – watch out for more stuff!!
